This Sunnyvale kitchen remodel was not a simple cabinet-and-countertop replacement. It was a full kitchen relocation and layout transformation that changed how the entire main living area works.
The original kitchen was separated from the rest of the home and did not offer the open flow, storage, or entertaining space the homeowners wanted. Instead of keeping the kitchen in the same place, the project moved it to a new area of the house and redesigned the surrounding layout around it.
The goal was to create a brighter, more open, and more functional kitchen connected naturally with the dining and living areas. To make that possible, RISE GC completed major layout changes, moved plumbing and electrical systems, relocated windows and the sliding patio door, upgraded the electrical panel, and rebuilt the kitchen around a new custom design.
The final result is an open-concept kitchen with a large island, custom cabinetry, quartz countertops, premium appliances, a pot filler, a beverage station, a wine refrigerator, upgraded lighting, and a much better connection between the kitchen, dining room, living room, and backyard.

The main idea behind this project was to make the home feel more open and better connected.
The kitchen was relocated to a new position inside the home, which allowed the layout to become more practical and modern. This change created a better relationship between cooking, dining, relaxing, and family gathering areas.
A kitchen relocation is one of the most complex types of kitchen remodels because it affects almost every system behind the walls. The design is not only about how the cabinets look. It also requires careful planning for plumbing, electrical, ventilation, lighting, appliance placement, windows, doors, flooring, and inspections.
The scope of work of this project:
1. Existing Layout Redesigning & Permit Application
The original kitchen, dining area, living room connection, windows, patio door, plumbing, and electrical layout were redesigned before construction started.
New kitchen area layout included a large island, custom cabinet runs, appliance locations, sink placement, cooktop area, beverage station, storage zones, and provided open space, with a better flow into the dining and living spaces.
2. Demolition and Space Preparation
The existing kitchen materials and affected interior areas were removed to prepare the home for the new layout. Because the kitchen was being relocated, demolition had to support a larger transformation — not just removal of old finishes.

3. Opening the Kitchen and Dining Connection
A new opening was created between the living room and dining room to improve the home’s flow. This was one of the key layout changes that helped the main living area feel more open and connected.
4. Window and Sliding Patio Door Relocation
Windows and the sliding patio door were relocated to support the new kitchen design. This helped improve natural light, backyard access, wall function, and the placement of cabinetry and appliances.
5. Electrical Panel Upgrade and Rewiring
The home’s electrical panel was upgraded, and the kitchen was rewired for the new layout. New electrical planning supported modern appliances, lighting, switches, outlets, island power, and specialty features.
6. Plumbing and Appliance Connections Relocated
Because the kitchen moved to a new part of the home, plumbing had to be relocated as well. New connections were prepared for the sink, appliances, and pot filler above the cooktop.
7. Cabinetry, Island, Surfaces, and Lighting Installation
The new kitchen was built with custom cabinetry, a large island with seating, quartz countertops, upgraded lighting, and carefully planned storage. These elements gave the kitchen its final shape and everyday functionality.
8. Final Finishes, Appliances, and Completion
The final stage included appliance installation, backsplash, hardware, lighting details, the beverage station, wine refrigerator, finish adjustments, and final cleanup. At this point, the kitchen became a complete, move-in-ready living space.
Inspections completed during the project:
Because the remodel involved a kitchen relocation, layout changes, electrical work, plumbing relocation, an electrical panel upgrade, ventilation planning, and changes to windows and the patio door, the project passed required city inspections after each step of the remodel, before the work could be fully completed.
Final Result
The completed kitchen now feels like the true center of the home.
